In the 1930s and 1940s, our founder, Abe Kaplan, dedicated himself to mastering the art of crafting high-end mattresses. Driven by his passion for creating world-class quality mattresses using natural materials, Abe’s journey led him to establish Royal-Pedic Mattress in Los Angeles in 1946.

From its inception, Royal-Pedic quickly gained recognition as the premier choice for many Los Angeles-based interior design firms. Among our notable clients were architect Paul Williams and interior designer Marti Brent, whose portfolios included Hollywood’s most iconic film actors and actresses.

For nearly four decades, Abe, along with his partner Steve, helmed Royal-Pedic and continued to manufacture mattresses for an impressive roster of clients, including an array of film celebrities and even six U.S. presidents. John F. Kennedy, in particular, insisted on Royal-Pedic mattresses wherever he traveled. Ronald Reagan had a preference for a custom (84″ x 84″) size that has since become a coveted choice.

In 1984, Royal-Pedic embarked on a new chapter when it was acquired by the Kelemen family. Three generations later, the Kelemen’s continue to uphold the tradition of high standards in handcrafted quality and the use of the finest natural materials in mattress making.
